Disability Proves No Barrier with Interaction’s Fitability tennis program

Recently, Interaction was announced as one of Tennis Australia’s, Australian Open (AO) community grants recipients.  We were lucky enough to have Todd Woodbridge visit.  Todd engaged in some tennis activity with our participants, and encouraged them about the importance of health, well being and exercise.

AO Community Grants are aimed at strengthening inclusion and diversity throughout the sport. Successful applicants were chosen based on their evidence, rationale and willingness to show a commitment to providing programs that hero diversity and inclusion.

The grant provided by Tennis Australia has enabled Interaction and Castle Hill Tennis Academy the opportunity to provide a free 10 week tennis program.  This program is tailored specifically for community members with a disability, and starts in September 2017.

“We are extremely excited to announce the second ‘Fitability’ program. Fitability is designed to assist people with disabilities make positive health and wellness choices, through exercise, education and health packs” said Interaction CEO Craig Moore.

Along with providing services to those with general disability, Interaction is widely known as a leader when it comes to providing services for those with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS).  PWS is a rare genetic disorder with many serious symptoms.  One of the symptoms being extreme overeating, which can lead to chronic obesity and – in some cases – can be life threatening.

Fitability is a great way to complement existing services Interaction provides to the general disability community, in particular people with PWS.  Educating our PWS clients on how to maintain a sustainable balance between their food intake and exercise is crucial to the success of their long term quality of life”, says Craig.

Fitability is a program that commenced in March 2017 to help educate persons with disabilities on the importance of health and wellbeing. Participating in Fitability is a fantastic way for people in similar situations to come together, gain new friendships and get fit at the same time.
